STUDY TIPS

Coming Prepared and Reviewed

Coming prepared means that you will have read the assigned material before you come to class. Coming reviewed means that you will be required to read the assigned material after class, especially those mentioned in class. Listening carefully means providing me or the speaking classmates with your full attention. And participation consists of asking and answering questions, actively finding associations between course material and your previously held knowledge, sharing those associations when appropriate, and taking an active role in class discussions. You will have the opportunity to earn points just for participating in class in the form of both individual and group. Your participation will be inadequate if you have not read the assigned material before or after class.

Grade Determination

As you may find from the above information, marking scheme of our course is quite different from what you have in traditional CHINESE teaching way. In this class, your performance is a function of both ability and motivation, so your grade will reflect each. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your ability and your motivation through individual and team work. Specifically, your grade will be composed of your performance in classroom participation, discussion, presentation, seminar, a semester-long team project and final exam.

Critical Thinking

Students will review and evaluate management situations by case study, role play, presentation, class discussions, debates, questionnaire, seminars and business simulation. Questions are assigned to allow the student to discuss certain business situation and defend it with their own views and ideas.

Social and Personal Responsibility (No Plagiarism & Copy)

Students will explore personal ethical, cultural, and social responsibility issues surrounding management activities. Also, they will examine how a company is managed in a pluralistic society.

Being an Adult, Please Take Responsibility for Your Actions and Words…”

Meanwhile, Students should strictly follow the rule of Honesty in Academic Research and Result. The use of intellectual property of others without attributing it to them is considered a serious academic offense.It is the University's policy that cheating or plagiarism result in receiving a failing grade for the work or course. Therefore, apart from clearly identified reference, any copy or plagiarism in any written work, including quiz, paper and presentation, both in and out of class is entirely forbidden. It would directly lead to the failure calculated as Zero in certain part. To be well noticed, any cheating in final examination would lead to the failure as Zero for the whole course.

Plagiarism: the presentation of the work, idea or creation of another person as though it is your own. Itis a form of cheating and is a very serious academic offence that may lead to expulsion from theUniversity. Plagiarised material can be drawn from, and presented in, written, graphic and visual form,including electronic data, and oral presentations. Plagiarism occurs when the origin of the material usedis not appropriately cited.

Examples of plagiarism include:

    • Copying sentences or paragraphs word-for-word from one or more sources, whether publishedor unpublished, which could include but is not limited to books, journals, reports, theseswebsites, conference papers, course notes, etc. without proper citation;

    • Closely paraphrasing sentences, paragraphs, ideas or themes without proper citation; Piecingtogether text from one or more sources and adding only linking sentences;

    • Copying or submitting whole or parts of computer files without acknowledging their source;

    • Copying designs or works of art and submitting them as your original work;

    • Copying a whole or any part of another student’s work; and

    • Submitting work as your own that someone else has done for you.

Detailed Hints in Participation with Rule of “Luck Aeroplane”

It is important in this class that you actively participate in your own learning. You will see that many of the topics we cover will apply to you or to situations with which you are familiar, and it will increase both your own memory and the memories of your classmates if you actively share your experiences with us. As we will discuss, more durable memories are made through active learning, so your success in mastering the material of this class depends in part on your participation in both individual and group work.

Participation points in Individual/GroupPerformanceare a quick and easy way to earn points in the class with the rule of Luck Aeroplane. There would be 3 grades. According to your perception of your involvement, one card with certain grade will be issued to you at tutor’s discretion. These points must be earned and to be summed up in the end, more, points cannot be earned if you do not attend class discussion. To earn these points, you must be involved in class discussions. As the material is presented to you, it will be interspersed with discussion questions. They are designed to provide you the opportunity to begin to use the new information you are learning.

Participation points are earned when you contribute to the discussion or when you ask questions of your own. Speaking up in class has two specific benefits to you. First of all, you earn participation points, and that is an easy way to help your grade. Second, the more active you are in the learning process, the more you learn. That will help your performance on tests, and it will also help your performance when you utilize these concepts at work. Business is an applied field, and class discussion questions are designed to give you the opportunity to begin applying the material you learn. When you join in class discussions, benefits occur for the rest of us in the classroom also. Your contributions may help to clarify material for a classmate or might help someone to better integrate or apply the material we discuss. This helps the learning of everyone in the room.
