Good afternoon ladies & gentlemen. It gives me great pleasure to be invited here today to speak to you all at Xianda for the parent & student Induction.
女士们，先生们，下午好。我很荣幸今天受邀前来参加贤达新生入学仪式。
Please allow me to introduce myself- my name is Adrian Baird and I am the Head of International student recruitment at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
请允许我自我介绍，我的名字叫Adrian Baird(白安海)，我是卡迪夫城市大学（卡城大）国际学

As you would have learned from my colleague Mable Miao- Cardiff & Xianda have formed a strong partnership that dates back nearly a decade for International collaboration.

Our aim when we set up the partnership was to offer young ambitious and high achieving graduates a truly unique opportunity of being able to obtain a Chinese bachelors & UK masters qualification within 4 years. Achieving this is not a simple task and has required a tremendous amount of work from academic staff at Xianda & Cardiff. However the results have far exceeded expectations at both sides of the world.
我们建立合作关系的目的就是为有抱负，年轻有为的毕业生们提供一个真正独特的就学机会，能
够在4年内获得中国学士和英国硕士学位的课程。实现这一目标并非易事，需要来自贤达和卡城大
的学术人员付出大量心血。然而合作的结果远远超出了中英双方的预期。
Last year we welcomed the first batch of Xianda students to our Master courses at Cardiff- it had felt like a long wait from the first time we discussed setting up the project- but I can tell you all now it was a wait well worth waiting for! The students that progressed were amongst the highest achieving students for Masters from China that Cardiff has ever had. Their academic performance & English standing was of the highest order and are a credit to the excellent teaching standards at Xianda.

We at Cardiff then had a job to do in order to ensure these young, ambitious and incredibly capable students gained & achieved what we set out during their masters.

I am pleased to say that it has been a great success. As you would have heard from the graduates today- they excelled in their course and not only gained the qualification they set out to achieve, but had a life enhancing experience.

At Cardiff Met we pride ourselves on providing career focused courses that aim on producing graduates fit for the Global workplace. AS we all know the world in which we live in is truly interconnected, which is why graduates must be equipped with a wide range of skills that they can apply in a globalised world. The programme that we have designed in collaboration with Xianda aspires to give our students what we describe as the Cardiff Met EDGE. EDGE- graduates that are ethical, digital, Global & entrepreneurial.

These are a set of attributes that will set a Xianda/Cardiff Met graduate apart from the rest.

I see in front of me today a group of students who all have that ability to have the Cardiff Met EDGE and with the opportunity presented to you with this unique programme I invite you all to dream big and take the next steps in achieving something life changing.

I want to finish by reading from a book by Dave trott- Dave trott is a well know creative thinker and the book is called 1 +1 = 3.
最后我想通过Dave trott的书来完成的分享。Dave trott是一位知名的创作思想家，这本书名为1
+ 1 = 3。
“A few year ago I read an interview with Steve Jobs. Steve said any new idea is nothing more than a new combination of old elements.
几年前，我读过史蒂夫乔布斯的采访。史蒂夫说，任何新想法只不过是旧元素的新组合。
He said the ability to make those new combinations depends on our ability to see relationships.
他说，实现这些新组合的能力取决于我们看待关系的能力。
That’s what makes some people more creative. They are better at spotting those connections, better at recognizing possible relationships.

They are able to do this because they’re had more experience, or through more about those experiences, than other people. They are better at connecting the dots because they have more dots to connect.

Steve said that this was the problem in the “creative” industries. Most people haven’t had diverse experience. They may know a lot, but only about a very narrow field. So they don’t have enough dots to connect.

So the conventional way of educating is 1+1= 2 THIS IS THE old system. Under the new way like what we have created in the new system 1+1=3. Where the sum is made up of more than its parts.”
